“I can’t do this, I’m not an artist!” is typically what we hear. But we break it down step by step, and when the contests ends, the phones come out, and it's “Honey, get down here with the kids and the camera!”. .
Here’s an outline of the Team Training.
Bucket & Tube Castle - (1 hour) - 6 to 10 weeks before the contest.
Right after Sand 101, we go outside and you make a bucket and tube castle. This is to show you a scaled-down version of what you’ll be doing. This will probably be the best sand castle you’ve ever made. (It’s also a great technique to show your kids at the beach!)
You meet as a team with your Architect and brainstorm what you’d like to make. The Architect will then give you a sketch of what you could make. You then finalize on a Drawing/Model showing the form sizes, volume of sand, etc. This drawing/model is sent to Sand in the City, and we review it to make sure it’s a workable design, and also give advice on making it a better sculpture.
Practices – (4 hours each team) - 2 to 4 weeks before the contest.
Practices are your most valuable learning session. You will do a pound up and practice carving your sculpture. To get the most out of your practice, you should have all your forms, tools, drawings & models, etc. ready. You should also have an idea of who is going to carve what. We’ll show you a number of techniques to get your sculpture to look great. Most teams leave feeling it will work.
Sand in the City® is your partner from start to finish, providing all the training and support you’ll need along the way to ensure a great event experience for your company and your employees.
